BEST PRACTICES
General:
Install
the latest software releases: Check the versions of the FXVIEW
software and iRex firmware on you device against the latest versions
listed below and perform any required updates. Contact us at
support@solidfx.com
if you have any questions.
Keep your
unit charged regularly: The best way to ensure your unit is always
ready to use is to charge the battery completely the day before you plan
to use the device. This will ensure your FX10 or FX8 will always have a
charge and be ready for use.
FX10:
Charging:
The best practice is to charge the unit for no more than 4 hours at a
time and charge from a powered computer. Leaving the unit plugged in
for long periods of time, such as an overnight charge, can be
detrimental to the internal battery. If you have not used the FX10 for
many weeks it may need to be charged prior to use (see: Why won't my
FX10 start?).
Sensor
locks: Make sure to configure the touch sensor buttons the way you
like them. Some people like them all turned off - some like to leave
selected groups on. It really depends on how you hold and use the FX10
in the cockpit. Once you set the sensor lock settings in FXVIEW (see
Settings icon on the bottom of the Airport Notebook screen), your
preferences will be automatically be configured whenever you enter the FXVIEW application.
SD card: Leave
the SD Card in the unit. The software and Jeppesen database will only
function using the original card. If you lose or damage your SD card,
please contact us at
support@solidfx.com. If for some reason the card is removed from
the FX10, make sure the write protect switch on the card is not
accidently turned on when replaced in the unit. Do not alter or remove
files that exist on the FX10 SD card at the time of delivery. Make
separate directories to contain your own personal documents
FX8:
Flip Bar
and Key Lock: Make sure to configure the flip bar/menu key as active
or inactive. Some people like them disabled for use in flight - some
like to leave them active. This really depends on how you hold and use
the FX8 in flight. Once you set the flip bar/menu button as inactive in FXVIEW (see Settings icon on the bottom of the Airport Notebook screen),
your preferences will automatically be configured whenever you enter the
FXVIEW application.
Battery
Door and Micro SD card: SOLIDFX recommends to never open the battery
door as damage to the battery connection could result. Also, the SD
card can be reached when the battery door is removed. Leave the SD card
in the unit. The software and Jeppesen database will only function
using the original card. If you lose or damage your SD card, or require
a larger size, please contact us at
support@solidfx.com.

FAQs (FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS)
Top 3 FAQs
Do I need a paper back-up if I have
the FX10 or FX8?
If you are
flying under Part 91 (most general aviation and business operations),
then you don't need paper charts when you use the FX10 or FX8. However,
it is always advisable to have a back-up. The back-up could be a
panel-mounted solution, paper charts, or perhaps a second FX10 or FX8.
Go to Jeppesen's website
www.flyelectronic.net for more info.
Part 135 and 121 pilots may also be able to fly
paperless after meeting certain FAA guidelines. Please review FAA
document AC-120-76A and AC-91-78 for more information.
How
do I update the Jeppesen data?
Review the
instructions found in the FX10 or FX8 Owner's manual beginning on page
28. Use this link to download the Jeppesen Service Update Manager (JSUM)
software.

I
don't see my eChart Reader Service on JSUM. What do I do?
First,
verify that you are using the latest version of JUSM. Early versions of
JSUM do not support the eChart Reader Services. To download the latest
version, go to
